I am new to solar and am trying to learn about building about our backup lighting system. I have 2 deep cycle 12V batteries wired in parallel to feed the 12V lighting I have in the house. Wouldn't I wire my 3 100W solar panels in parallel as well? I get confused (not knowing much about electrical stuff like this) which is more advatageous. Wouldn't wiring it in parallel put more amps into the batteries?

I just bought a 240 this weekend and would like the manuals you have scanned.
I was able to download and print the maintenance manual, but it keeps saying the other two are corupted (operators & shop manuals). Any way I can get those?
Thanks,
Eric

if I had it to do again I would probably go 24 volts... I can change my charge controller over any time but would need a new invert so for now what works works... capacity wise I am good but if I planned on being out more time in the winter I'd have gone with 8 of those golf cart batteries right away... as it is now I am hoping to get another 3 or 4 years out of mine and will not add any capacity until I swap them out...

not sure if this is what you'r looking for... if you have any specific questions let me know...

I am thinking about designing a small solar system and was wondering about the battery bank. Would you have any suggestions to offer after living with yours for a while?

It's actually a nice little tractor... from our 8n to this is a noticeable step up in power. My biggest complaint is with the current three point system.

First the width that things mount at is different then a standard cat 1 three point hitch... We have needed to get longer pins for a couple of attachments...
Then the top link location can cause the PTO shaft to contact the frame just under it
Using fixed with arms makes mounting attachments a bigger pain sometimes... although some people like that better (not me)
Attachments can off the arms if you forget to set the locks... this is a user error but is really easy to forget...

would I but it again... maybe... but I would really like to get a front end loader... this tractor would work fine with one but getting something with around 35-40 HP would be more ideal...

In reality even if I get a loader this tractor is probably staying put... it's ugly and I like her...

Did you ever find a source for caburators parts or a new air filter ? I have a Sachs-Dolmar 116 Si that I have not used in years. The carburator appears to be fouled.

Hello Chris

Just wanted to express my appreciation for your website. I live in NJ, and am a member of a team of individuals who travel to Malawi, Africa each summer to assist a local organization which supports orphan children. They operate “feeding centers” in very remote areas to provide food, recreation, and some education for the children. In past years we’ve constructed wooden swingsets, and last year a gravity drip irrigation system. The remote areas in which our organization works does not have electricity, and last year I had the opportunity to be at one of the centers after sundown. All activity stops. I couldn’t help but imagine how life could change with a few electric lights to continue activity into the night at these community feeding centers. I’ve just begun investigating how I might install one of two solar panels to run a few electric lights at one of the feeding centers. I'd think 200-300 watts would be more than sufficient for a pilot system, and perhaps the first time out we could begin staying with DC and utilizing DC landscape light bulbs. Don't know yet.

Although I’m an engineer, and have done a good deal of electrical wiring, solar technology is a new venture for me, as well as DC electricity. While there seems to be a good deal of information scattered over the internet, studying you project has encouraged me to “give it a go”, and your mention of “blemished” panels was very helpful as we’re cost limited by fund raising.

I’d be very interested in hearing how the panels you’ve utilized have held up, as well as any new insights you may have that I could apply. I'm looking into the resources you list.

By the way, good luck with your IH 240. I have a similar tractor with a loader, and have spent more time, and money, than I care to admit rebuilding it. But it is a strong machine.

Hi, i was just checking out the youtube and your video about an amish built off-grid cabin caught my attention.
I would like to know who built your cabin and how much was the total cost for it. Is it possible for you to give me that information?
I am very much interested to see if it is feasible to go that route instead of buying a mobile home or a on-site built home (stick built).
I look forward to your reply. thanks.

Thank you for such a detailed presentation about the solar setup. Mine is quite small compared to yours but hopefully functional...........I've not yet tried it to see. Have to purchase the batteries first. I was under the impression that the setup I bought from Harbor Freight, cheap as it was, would work fairly well.
